DNA Test – France To Introduce DNA Tests To Speed Up Immigration

According to a report in the Daily Mail, French president, Nicholas Sarkozy, plans to introduce a voluntary DNA test for immigrants in order to speed up the immigration process.

The French president has introduced his proposal to utilise a DNA test to speed up the immigration process in France and he says the DNA test will be used to prove familial links between those seeking immigration and those already living in France. Many immigrants want to move to France to be closer to family members living there but a backlog of immigration applications makes it a laborious process. It is hoped that a voluntary DNA test will make it a much speedier proposition.

The decision whether to implement a DNA test for immigrants was taken in France’s lower parliament and, according to the report in the Daily Mail, the National Assembly voted 91 to 45 in favour of introducing the scheme which would allow for the voluntary DNA test being offered to immigrants looking to move into France to be with their families. The DNA test itself is a fairly infallible means of proving relationships between family members and a paternity test, for example, can prove fatherhood with a 99.9% degree of accuracy or disprove fatherhood completely.

DNA Test – Obstacles in the Road

The process that would allow for a voluntary DNA test for immigrants in France is far from reaching completion and according to the Daily Mail report; it still needs to be ratified by the Senate. If the bill is passed, it will permit consular officials to request a DNA test from applicants who are aiming to secure long term visas to join their family members in France. In addition to the DNA test aspect of the process, the bill is also proposing that would be immigrants into France should take French language tests prior to entry being assured and those who apply for the voluntary DNA test would have their immigration application fast-tracked.
