Paternity Test – Prince Admits Paternity

After 2 years of denials, Prince Albert II of Monaco, finally admitted his fatherhood of a child after a paternity test confirmed the fact. Prince Albert II fathered a child with a Togolese flight attendant in 2003 and admitted fatherhood in 2005.

The paternity case relating to Prince Albert II was complicated further by the fact that he didn’t want to comment on the case whilst his father, Prince Ranier, was still alive. According to a report on CBS News, Prince Albert II was prepared to face up to the responsibilities of fatherhood after a paternity test proved that he was indeed the child’s father.

Speaking to CBS News, his lawyer stated, “Prince Albert II asks the press to adopt responsible behaviour, similar to what it has adopted in similar circumstances for other public figures, and to respect his private life and that of the underage child.”

Paternity Test – Maintaining a Royal Line

Whilst the paternity test proved that Prince Albert II was the father of the Togolese flight attendant, Nicole Coste’s, baby; it would not be possible for the child to ascend to the throne in later life. According to the report on CBS News, Article 10 of Monaco’s constitution specifies that only ‘direct and legitimate’ descendents can take up the throne which does not apply in the case of Alexandre, the Prince’s newly accepted son.
