Estrogen Gene Test™
Testing: Applicant only
Timeframe: 4-6 weeks
Begin taking steps to reduce your risk of breast cancer with our Estrogen Gene Test™ today. Scientists have established the causal link between oestrogen and breast cancer. We now know that the presence of oestrogen makes certain women more susceptible to developing breast cancer. So just how at risk are you? Our oestrogen test will establish the extent to which your body can break down the essential yet carcinogenic oestrogen hormone. Starting at just £399 you can begin taking the measures required to reduce your risk.
Knowledge is Power
Breast cancer rates are on the rise. Most women are now well aware of breast screening and mammograms and their importance in breast cancer diagnosis and prevention but you could be doing more.
Thanks to the Estrogen Gene Test™ you can empower yourself and take certain measures to reduce your breast cancer risk by altering your oestrogen metabolism. Most women dread to hear the words “you have been diagnosed with breast cancer” – imagine knowing you could have prevented this by means of a simple DNA test.
How to Carry Out Your Test
First of all, we need to stress the importance of getting the assistance of genetic counsellor to help you understand your results and guide you towards the targeted nutritional and lifestyle interventions that will alter your gene pathway.
For our end, all we need is an mouth swab sample which you can collect using our kit. The swabs need to be rubbed around the inside of the mouth for 20-30 seconds and then left to dry before placing them in the envelopes provided and returning them to the laboratory. Test results are available in 4-6 weeks from the instant we receive your samples at our lab.
Oestrogen is produced by your body (what we call endogenous oestrogen) but you also add exogenous oestrogen through various medicines and supplements you might be taking such as the contraceptive pill or Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). This means your body is exposed to increased levels of oestrogen and studies have concluded the oestrogen is toxic in high amounts.
Our DNA test is a targeted test that will help establish whether you have the right genes to break down and process oestrogen (thereby reducing your risk of breast cancer) or whether you have specific gene mutations which result in your body being unable to fully metabolise and excrete oestrogen. Our test looks at a total of 12 genes known to be involved with oestrogen metabolism and detoxification. If you carry mutations on 2 or more of these genes, your risk of breast cancer will be higher. Depending on how many mutations you carry, our results will establish your life time risk.
Once You Have Your Results
Once you have your results your doctor or genetic counsellor will closely follow up with you to determine how effective the recommended lifestyle and nutritional changes you have been. By taking a urine test, your doctor will be able to establish whether your body is metabolising oestrogen more effectively. If your body is processing oestrogen more effectively, your risk of breast cancer could also lessen due to a decreased exposure to the hormone.
