The Basic Science Behind The Test
Small amounts of baby DNA cross into the maternal blood stream via the placenta – a vital organ that brings the fetus’s blood and the maternal blood very close to each other. Blood gets cleansed by detoxification organs such as the liver or kidneys and your baby’s DNA will get filtered out by these organs and pass out with your urine. By isolating the fetal DNA from the blood sample, we can establish the gender of the baby. The technique for copying DNA molecules, known as polymerase chain reaction, is highly advanced and enables us to confirm the presence of Y chromosome fetal DNA in sample.
For those of you who are not aware, our gender is determined by our sex chromosomes. Each person is born with a set of sex chromosomes called genomes; females having XX chromosomes and males having XY chromosomes. In all mammals, the male sex is determined by the presence of the Y chromosome and this chromosome is what we look out for in the DNA analysis.
The results are ready! A male baby if the Y chromosome is present and female if no Y chromosome is present.
*Due to the test’s high sensitivity to any Y chromosome fragments in the sample, you must ensure no males come into contact with the samples. Males must not even be allowed to touch the kit. Once in the laboratory, your samples will be handled in an exclusion zone that can be accessed only by female laboratory personnel. By doing this, we ensure there is a 0% chance of your sample getting contaminated with any male DNA in the laboratory.
How Are Samples Collected?
This test is non-invasive and pain-free; all you need to do is send us a blood sample collected on a piece of absorbent paper by piercing the tip of your finger with a sterile lancet. A detailed guide is provided inside the kit, highlighting the important precautions* and steps to follow.

Do You Need Help Finding A Sampler? We Can Help You!
International Biosciences offers a blood sample collection service for those clients who might not have time to find a good sampler in their area. The service is offered in conjunction with a specialised third-party provider. The fee of £125 covers the majority of locations, however, it can increase depending on the coverage of the phlebotomist in your area. If you order this service and there is an additional fee you will be informed via e-mail prior to the kit being sent out. Please note that the additional fee cannot be quoted on the phone. Should you be interested in this service, select the respective option when ordering the test.
Pink or Blue® is conducted by Consumer Genetics Laboratory and advertises a 98% accurate at 9 weeks under laboratory conditions. This test has been validated by the laboratory to work starting at your 9th week of pregnancy (from your last menstrual period). The laboratory has a quality assurance program that continuously monitors the quality of its methods.
The error rate can increase up to 5% due to the home nature of the test and user error such as taking the test too early, not providing enough blood samples or male DNA contamination. The test is very sensitive to male DNA and the process of sample collection can be prone to contamination.
The laboratory analysis relies on the detection of fetal DNA in the sample provided. However, levels of fetal DNA vary from pregnancy to pregnancy and there may not always be sufficient volumes of DNA in the 9th week to provide an accurate result. The volume of fetal DNA will increase with weeks of pregnancy which means the chances of success improve with increased gestational age. Our recommendation therefore is to take the sample at 10 weeks.

How accurate is the baby gender test?
The test is a result of extensive scientific research providing you with a scientifically validated test. Moreover, not only is the test very user friendly, but it is also highly accurate, boasting accuracy levels of 98%*. By choosing lower quality tests that have not been scientifically researched and validated you are risking inaccurate baby gender prediction results not to mention, wasting your money.

The gender test is offered at only £169, and included in this cost you receive a home sampling kit ready for you to perform at home. Processing time commences once we have received your samples and takes 8 working days for results to be concluded. What is your Refund Policy?
