Is your dog suffering from stomach pain, skin rash, swollen paws or any other allergic reaction? Allergens are nothing more than natural or man-made substances that can cause allergies. To give you a better idea, below is a list of some of the most common allergens:

  • Bird Feathers
  • Cigarette smoke
  • Cleaning products
  • Dust
  • Fabrics
  • Insecticides

When the immune system overreacts

The immune system is designed to protect your dog but sometimes it can mistake non-harmful allergens as threats. In such cases, the immune system can overreact and trigger a variety of symptoms ranging from mild to severe. The following are some of the most common symptoms of allergies in dogs:

  • Constant licking
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea, vomiting and bloating
  • Itchy skin or skin rash
  • Runny eyes
  • Swollen paws or paw chewing

By learning your dog’s reaction to certain allergens, you will be able to change and improve multiple aspects of his or her life, being it the dog’s diet, accessories or home environment.

Important Note: It is important to note that the Dog Allergy test is not a DNA test. The allergy test uses the proteins in the dog’s system to measure their sensitivities for a better understanding of what they may not be able to tolerate.

Why should you order our Dog Allergy test?

Just like humans, it is important to keep in mind that all dog breeds are prone to develop allergies at any stage of their lives. Dog Allergy testing will help you to identify your dog’s reaction to a list of more than 120 allergens, covering not only common foods and supplements but also daily household products which may result in being harmful to your pet. You will also be provided with helpful instructions to assist you in obtaining suitable foods, products and other items that your dog’s immune system shows no allergic reaction to.

Important Notes:

It is suggested that the dog being tested is over 12 months of age since puppies tend to experience changes in their sensitivities as they age.

Your dog should not eat before getting its sample collected as food can affect the test results. We recommend either taking your dog’s sample first thing in the morning or waiting for the longest possible time between meals to collect the sample.

Aside from food, there are also medications, such as antihistamines and steroids, that can affect the dog’s test results. Therefore, your dog must not be on any antihistamines, anti-itching and anti-inflammatory medication or steroid-based medications for 1-2 weeks before collecting its sample.

Understanding the Test Results

Our results include a ranking of all of the above allergens based on the dog’s reaction to each and every one of them. Each allergen may be ranked in three different ways:

1. Positive for the allergen being tested.
2. Neutral; the allergen being tested may trigger a reaction but levels are not high enough for a positive reading.
3. Negative for the allergen being tested.

A detailed analysis of the allergens with positive and neutral readings is also included.

Results are available in around 2-3 weeks from receipt of samples at the laboratory. The report is online and interactive. Click here to see a sample report

The Sample Collection process

Samples for the Dog Allergy test are collected through a relatively easy and harmless procedure in which a cotton-based sample collection device and a small tube are used in order to collect your dog’s sample. Once you order the test, we will immediately dispatch your sample collection kit including step-by-step instructions along with the sample collection devices. Read our sample collection instructions.

Important Note: It is recommended to mail your sample within 24 hours of collecting it since samples have a maximum life of 10 days.
